The future of Ride Across Britain

Ride Across Britain was the first public event Threshold launched back in 2009. Since then, it has grown to become a fixture on the global cycling calendar that has seen thousands of riders experience the magic of cycling End-to-End of the UK.

It will come as no surprise to anyone who has been to the event, that RAB is vulnerable to the inflationary pressure we are seeing across the UK and beyond. Since pre-COVID we have seen the cost of delivery increase by over 30%.

Furthermore, the time commitment and personal cost of taking part in the event are at risk of becoming prohibitive as individuals and companies wrestle with the worst cost of living crisis many of us have experienced.

We have invested significantly to be able to provide the same quality of experience in 2022 that riders have come to expect. A big thank you must go to the team at Babble who have been fantastic in enabling us to do this.

However, we are reviewing the format for 2023 and beyond to protect against the risks associated with rising costs and economic uncertainty.

We are writing to tell you this now as we are aware an unusually high number of people are considering deferring to next year. Some of these will be for unavoidable reasons. However, some of these may be marginal calls.

We wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on their RAB dream and so if you are still able to take part this year we would recommend doing so. Due to high deferrals, we have final places available for Classic, Scotland, England and Plus double occupancy packages.

If the event format does change for next year, then anyone who deferred their place to 2023 would have priority access to the available tickets.

Also, if the decision is made to fundamentally change the event format and this doesn’t work for you then there will be a refund option available.

Anyone who has already deferred to 2023, but now decides to take part in 2022 we will also refund your deferral fee.

We know this may be a worry for those who have this pencilled in for the future. However, we think it is right to share the situation with you to help you make informed decisions.

We wish you all the best for the remainder of your training and we will be in touch again when plans are confirmed for next year’s event.
